A Tribute to Villa-Lobos, the art show curated by Alcinda Saphira,  Rene Nascimento and Antonio Oliveira at the United Nations building in New York City, had its public reception on October 30.

Open to the general public until November 6, the exhibition is an exciting collection of diverse works from established and new artists (most of them from Brazil) expecially produced for this event. From Artur Moreira’s functional sculptures, to the delicate fabrics made by Junia d’Affonseca and the vibrantly surreal work of Ferjo (see above), more than 20 artists contributed unique art pieces to this reflection on the importance of Villa-Lobos’ legacy.

One of the highlights of this exhibition is the work of a group of indigenous artists from the Amazon curated by the Art and Amazonic Culture Institute Dirson Costa (IDC). Duhigo, Dhiani Pa’saro, Sanipa, Too Xacwa 9meaning Child), Yupury, Tchanpan, and Kawena have volunteered to take workshops and art classes in Manaus, the capital of Brazil’s Amazon state, and their work have been displayed in several Brazilian and international cities in the last year.
