Benjamin Moser Talks About Clarice Lispector
Considered to be one of the most important writers of her generation, Clarice Lispector remains largely unknown to North Americans audiences – despite being referred to as “the James Joyce of Brazil” by several European and North American literary publications.
But a new biography about the life and work of Clarice Lispector aims to both re-introduce Ms. Lispector’s work to North American audiences and illuminate some previously unknown areas of the author’s life. On the audio interview above, writer Benjamin Moser, author of “Why This World: A Biography of Clarice Lispector,” speaks about Lispector’s Jewish background, her parent’s life in Eastern Europe and the role of religion and superstition in the author’s work – among many other topics.
A Texan writer, translator and book critic for Harper’s Magazine, Benjamin Moser currently lives in the Netherlands. He spent five years traveling to Ukraine, England, Switzerland and Brazil in order to complete his research.
